Brief History of Alcantara
Alcantara used to be called "Kogtong" from a big fish which was said to inhabit a spring in the heart of the town. When the Spaniards came, they renamed the place Alcantara after a town in Spain.Alcantara became a town in 1830 as it separated from neighboring towns of Ronda and Moalboal.

In 1912, Alcantara was returned to its town status. This was before it was made a barrio of Moalboal by the Americans. LLenos served as Municipal President until 1922. He was later replaced on the following:
